The Menangle Railway Bridge carries the Main Southern railway line across Menangle Road and the Nepean River between the stations of Menangle Park and Menagle stations. The bridge opened in 1863. It was the first large iron railway bridge on the New South Wales Government Railways network. The bridge was manufactured in England by The Canada Works in Birkenhead. The bridge opened on 1 July 1863 with the line from Campbelltown to Picton. In 1907, the bridge was strengthened with intermediate piers and extra girders added.〔(Menangle rail bridge over Nepean River ) NSW Environment & Heritage〕〔(Investigation Report for Uplifting Speed Limit across Bridge ) URS Corporation 9 September 2005〕 In March 2003, the bridge was closed for one month while repairs were carried out.〔(Rail bridge closed for safety tests ) ''ABC News'' 28 March 2003〕〔(Repairs put rail services back on track ) ''ABC News'' 25 April 2003〕 When it reopened it had a 20 km/h speed limit, later increased to 40 km/h.
